The Art of Playwriting
Write a Play in 10 Weeks
3 Hour Short Course

All are One on One with instructor Richard Caliban, who has spent his life in rehearsal rooms getting words on a page up onto a stage. And since it’s One on One, the courses can be adjusted to fit your level of experience.
The Art of Playwriting
This 8 week course offers a comprehensive immersion into the art of playwriting.

Included are the nuts and bolts basics, insights and tips on how to infuse your writing with artistry and depth; and first hand advice taken from a lifetime of experience on practical issues that can make all the difference in eventually getting a play produced.

So whether you’re someone who wants to find out if writing plays is something you want to do, or whether you’re already working on a script but just want a little refresher — this can be a great way to jump start the process and get you immersed in the art of playwriting.

THE COURSE INCLUDES:
  • Lectures On Playwriting Elements
Each week you will learn one of the basic components of playwriting: Dramatic structure, Character, Dialogue, etc.
  • Weekly Assignment
Short assignments corresponding to the lecture topics, giving you the opportunity to put into practice what you’re learned.
  • Video Conference Session
Each week you will have a half hour live discussion with the instructor, Richard Caliban.
  • Sample Plays
A play is assigned to read and discuss each week.
  • Writing a Play
Working on a script is the best way to learn, so during the course you will work on a long term project: writing a play.

How Does It Work?
Enroll anytime. And then each week you receive materials, assignments and feedback via email and video conference.
Write A Play In 10 Weeks
This 10 week course is entirely focused on you getting the first draft of a play written.

You can start with an idea you’ve been thinking about but haven’t gotten around to writing. Or you can start from scratch.

Think of it as having your own personal trainer guiding and keeping you focused on reaching the goal of a completed first draft.

THE COURSE INCLUDES:
  • Notes on Playwriting
Each week you will get tips and strategies emailed to you to help with plot, character, dialog and to shape your story with dramatic structure, from the first kernel of an idea to a completed first draft.
  • Weekly Feedback
As you progress with your script you will receive feedback along with some brainstorming and suggestions on how move forward.
  • Video Conference Session
Each week you will have a half hour live discussion with the instructor, Richard Caliban.

How Does It Work?
Enroll anytime. And then each week you receive materials by email and feedback via email and video conference.
3 Hour Short Course
Caliban will go over all the most salient points covered in the longer courses in a one on one 3 hour Zoom session with you.
This can be used as a good brush up opportunity or to jump start your way into writing a play.
